Based on the fact that with my five senses I can perceive only this physical world (unless you want to argue that I am lacking extrasensory perception) there is no meaning to our existence; we simply exist. The only innate drives we feel all relate to preserving our individual lives and to preserve this species. If we lacked the chemicals in the brain that give us a sense of happiness, there would no longer be any reason to do anything. This species would have died out ages ago, and all that we know today would not exist. There would be no religion, no philosophy, no ideas about the meaning of our existence. Neither would there be pleasure nor suffering. There is no purpose. We live day to day in an elaborate program created by our collective imaginations, and growing up means only that your physical body has matured and that you have become familiar with the rules of our game and have become good at playing it. In my opinion, people are nothing more than programmed sacks of meat. People today don't realize that death is the end, and they become completely integrated into this game to such an extent that their bodies react accordingly, and concepts like murder, war, suicide, and love were invented. No one is willing to accept that there is nothing special about our species because we have built so many things, organized people so well, and have set up governments to control ourselves. But I refuse to play along until I have any reason at all to believe that this world was put here by some divine being, or at least, that we did not form from contracting clouds of interstellar debris and elements formed during the process of stellar life and death into our sun and planets and the primordial soup from whence we evolved.

Just as a side note: I attended church from the time I was old enough to crawl to today, and I still go even though I can't believe in God. My family doesn't know about this. I've tried talking to God, I've asked him for innocent things, and throughout the course of the twenty years that I've been alive, I have never had a reason to believe that he was really there. And aside from Christianity, I find that all religion is utterly illogical, and that nihilism is this only belief without holes in it (except for maybe the origins of the Universe--except that I'm more apt to believe in that than devoting my entire lifetime to one of myriads of religions without sufficient reason, because evolutionary scientists aren't just making shit up to appease the collective curiosity of our species) and nihilism nullifies everything we do. So, even though it is a depressing and aimless lifestyle, I accept that over illogic.
